Dianna M. Milewicz, M.D., Ph.D., is the President George H.W. Bush Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine, Director of the Division of Medical Genetics, and Vice-Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Dr. Milewicz’s research program focuses on identifying rare variants in genes that trigger vascular diseases and understanding the link between the altered gene and disease using cellular and mouse models of the mutant genes. She originally focused on genes for thoracic aortic aneurysms and acute aortic dissections but more recently has pursued identification of altered genes that lead to large artery occlusive cerebrovascular disease. She has received numerous honors and awards for her research, including the Princess Lilian Foundation Award (Belgium), American Heart Association Merit Award, and Rice University Distinguished Alumni Award, and she has been inducted into the American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians.
