Chicago, Illinois, United States
Nina is a 4th year medical student at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. She attended Northwestern University for her undergradaute degree, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Human Communication and Disorders.
Nina is passionate about understanding the impact of patient education and awareness on health outcomes. She identified patient knowledge gaps in peripheral arterial disease while working in Dr. Karen Ho's lab, the John Marquardt Clinical Research Professor of Vascular Surgery at Feinberg, after being awarded the Lanterman Vascular Research Student Fellowship in the Division of Vascular Surgery at Feinberg. She presented her findings at the Academic Surgical Congress in 2021, and first author published the manuscript in the Journal of Vascular Surgery. While working with Dr. Ho, she also helped develop a clinical trial protocol to educate peripheral arterial disease patients and assess the impact of education on patient activation measures, which is currently ongoing. She received the Student Research Fellowship award from the Society of Vascular Surgeons in 2021 for her ongoing research. In 2022, Nina began research under the guidance Dr. Mary M. McDermott, the Jeremiah Stamler Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Preventative Medicine at Feinberg, where she has been involved in a clinical trial to assess temporal changes in patient reported outcome measures in response to supervised walking therapy.
