Sajal Medha K. Akkipeddi is a medical student from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (URSMD). He attended Swarthmore College in PA for his undergraduate education, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.
He is interested in cerebrovascular neurosurgery and is currently working with Dr. Matthew Bender (PI) on a research fellowship between his 3rd and 4th years of medical school. He is researching the molecular compositions and distinct pathobiologies of acute ischemic stroke thrombi, in hopes of facilitating development of novel thrombolytics. His expertise in molecular cytology, mass spectrometry, and biochemical analytic techniques comes from a rich research background spanning work in a marine biology lab and a cancer RNA biology lab before starting his current work in medical school on stroke.
Down the road, he hopes to be a practicing neurosurgeon with an integrated cerebrovascular research lab that leverages multiple analytic techniques and disciplines to better understand and treat cerebrovascular pathology.
